The Baywalk is located at the corner of Walworth Ave. and Geneva St., placing it 100 yards from Edgewater Park on Geneva Lake, and within walking distance to many local businesses. It is home to Yerkes Observatory, the largest refracting telescope in the world, and was also the site for a major Hollywood movie.
Kishwauketoe Nature Conservancy
Residents know the importance of keeping the surrounding natural beauty. No where else is that so evident than at Kishwauketoe ("Clear Water") Nature Conservancy. Kishwauketoe was established in August of 1990 to preserve the natural wetlands that line the shores of Geneva Lake. Walking paths wind throughout the 231 acre site, including wooden bridges spanning the wetland areas.
Yerkes Observatory
Widely considered "The Birthplace of Modern Astrophysics", Yerkes Observatory rests on the southwest side of town. Built in 1897, Yerkes is home to the largest refracting telescope in the world. Yerkes Observatory offers Saturday programs throughout the year. Programs are free but Yerkes appreciates donations. Yerkes Observatory also offers many programs at other times for a fee, including star parties and observing through telescopes.
